Patience Is Key

The most important rule of growing a beard is to stay away from razors and to just let it do its thing. While you may get impatient with the growth rate, it is important to know that time is your best friend. Many a beards life was cut preemptively because some underestimate the time it takes for their beard to reach full potential, thinking that the beard is only going to be patchy. A good rule of thumb is to let your beard grow out for at least four weeks, as it’s only after a decent amount of time that you can asses it’s true status.

TIP: It’s very possible that as the beard grows longer, patches will get covered up underneath the rest of the beard. Longer hairs can be used to cover up the sparser areas, by combing and styling.

Be Nicer to Yourself

As you surely know, everyone is their own worst critic. We spend a lot of time looking into the mirror and picking apart what we don’t like about ourselves, whether that be our hair, our beard or just our face. It’s worth it to remind ourselves that not everyone is spending as much time examining your face in detail.

It is fair to say that the little things we criticize about ourselves are going unnoticed by most others in the world. Value your beard the way it is and enjoy your beard growth journey for what it is.

Keep Things Hydrated

The product that will make the biggest impact on your beard growth journey is beard oil. Beard balm is another product that serves a similar purpose, but gives your beard a little more volume while it conditions it.

Using a natural boar hair bristle brush will reach hairs at all lengths of the beard and distribute any conditioning product evenly throughout. All of this promotes further hair growth while maintaining upkeep.

It’s All in the Styling

There are a couple of things you can do to optimize a patchy beard. First, it’s a good idea to keep your facial hair relatively short. This will give the illusion that your beard is fuller and is more dense. The longer your hair grows, the more apparent that there are sparse areas. Short beards can look great! Many celebrities like Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio rock them.

Another thing you can do for a patchy beard is to keep the cheeks trimmed and the sides shorter. If your beard is thicker lower on the face. Bring the line further down the cheek. Sharp beard lines assist in making them look fuller.

Remember, a patchy beard might not be what you had initially wanted, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t grow it. All beards are awesome in their own way, it’s just a matter of having the patience and styling them the right way.
