Julian Doan, 31, has been involved in business and entrepreneurship for 13 years. Beginning in 2005 when he was fresh out of high school, Doan started his career by networking.

"I was lucky enough to be introduced to some very young successful people who took me in and mentored me," he said. "It was rough the first five years, lots of trials and errors."

Despite difficulties, Doan followed the guidance of his mentors and said he gained enough confidence to "carve out a path of his own." In 2009, he attended a transformational seminar that gave him the inspiration he needed to take off.

"I made a commitment that day that I would become a trainer for a program just like that, and six years later, I was offered an opportunity to do so," Doan said.

For the past four years he has been involved in hosting transformational seminars. He described the program as being similar to Tony Robbins' talks on a "smaller, more intimate level."

One of the people Doan mentored over the years is Jae Matsumoto, 28.

Matsumoto said they met during a business seminar and right away he knew Doan was "up to big things" that he wanted to be a part of.

It was Doan's drive not his material possessions that made Matsumoto look up to the then 24-year-old. He said with Doan in his circle for nearly the past seven years, his life "changed drastically."

"It's his ability to keep calm and to see the bigger picture even when the pressure is on. Julian is an individual who is constantly looking for ways to expand himself," Matsumoto said. "I believe what makes him one of the best at what he does is how quickly he is able to adapt to any circumstance and maneuver around to not only create a solution, but one that allows both parties to win."

He referred to Doan as a "servant leader," saying he puts his loved ones and others before himself.

"He really brings the definition of a servant leader to life, while at the same time, calling people forward to be more than they are," Matsumoto said.

When it comes to time, Julian Doan blends instead of balancing.

Aside from acting as a life coach for business advice, Doan also splits his time between being a fighter and social media influencer.

When it comes to balancing his busy schedule, Doan lives by his mother's advice.

"One of the things that I learned from my mom is that life isn't so much about balancing the different areas of your life, as it is blending the different parts of your life," Doan said.

Doan follows a model of nourishing the blend of things that generate the power he needs to accomplish his daily tasks and goals. He refers to these core needs as body, being, balance and business.

Matsumoto believes in Doan's life codes fully. He said everything Doan teaches is to support others in getting results in their life.

"Working with Julian has supported not just me, but thousands of others who had the opportunity over the years to work with him and had the opportunity not only to change but to completely reinvent their lives," Matsumoto said. "His code isn't just a theory to try out. It's an actual working system developed to streamline your life and create massive results across all areas of your life."

Also fitting into his schedule, is his girlfriend of five years, Diane Chang, 28.

Chang said the two met at an event he was speaking at and she instantly knew there was "something special about him" She said it was his energy and life perspectives that drew her in.

While some may shy away from such a busy lifestyle, Chang fully supports her boyfriend's endeavors.

"Julian's career paths are very suitable to his personality and allow his unique gifts to shine," Chang said. "He is a natural born leader and influencer."

When you look at Julian Doan, two things stand out: his beard and his tattoos.

While these attributes cater well to his following on social media, they aren't always celebrated in the workplace. While Doan says he understands that reservations are still held about his modern look in traditional workplaces, he believes "the marketplace is changing."

"Honestly, after having all my tattoos, the idea of growing a beard didn't really scare me in terms of what I thought people's perceptions would be of me when it comes to professionalism," he said.

When it comes to being an entrepreneur, he said his look simply isn't an issue.

"In business, it really doesn't matter. You just have to know your audience and build and create your tribe," Doan said.

He said the fastest way to fail is to attempt to please and market to everyone.

"I think the key is to identify your tribe and focus on a niche of people who you want to identify with your brand. They will appreciate your authenticity," Doan said.

From business meeting to fight night

Julian Doan also takes his business mindset into the ring. While business and fighting may be in different worlds, he said they share the same principles.

It's these principles that he uses to take his success from business seminars to his martial arts training.

"Life, business, fighting; it's about punching, getting hit and counter-punching, so to speak, while never losing sight of the desired outcome," Doan said.

Doan started practicing Tae Kwon Do 10 years ago and has been involved in Muay Thai for the past two and a half.

He attributes his current skillset to allowing himself to be bad at the beginning.

"Anything worth being extraordinary at, is worth being bad at," Doan said. "I knew I was going to be bad before I was good because there were things I didn't know. I was okay with being a beginner again."

In both business and fighting, Doan believes many quit because they don't allow themselves to be comfortable in their beginner stage.

Doan said people expect to be good right away and see fast results. However, he finds this to be an unreasonable and unattainable goal. While most people give themselves enough time to fail, they don't give themselves enough time to succeed, he said.

"In business, you have to accept that failure is a part of success, not the opposite of success. The more you try to avoid failure, the more you will fail," Doan said.

He said when you accept that failure is inevitable when trying something new, you start seeing the experience for its learning lessons.

Likening the concept to the ring, Doan explained that in his early fighting career, he soon realized that the more he tried to avoid getting hit, the more he got hit. After awhile, it became less about the hit itself and more about how he chose to respond to it.

"A lot of people define their lives based on the events that happened to them. What life has shown me so many times is that it's not what happens to us that defines us, it's how we respond to it that determines our outcome."

When it comes to clearing his mind before a fight, Doan relies on being prepared. He said when public speaking or fighting, he dedicates plenty of quality time to practice. That way, on the day of, any anxiety is left at the door. In addition, he exercises regularly to reduce nervous energy.

Biggest advice to others

Doan said the biggest advice he can give to people looking to pursue their passions is to "just get started." He explained you don't need everything figured out at the beginning as long as you are willing to learn.

"Be stubborn with your commitment but flexible with your approach," he said.
